Lakes Region Community Emergency Response Team (LR-CERT) is part of a Citizen Corps program. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

Course particpants may apply to become a member of the Lakes Region Community Emergency Response Team (LR-CERT) if they meet other criteria.
![]() The LR-CERT members assist and support local fire and police departments in the event of an emergency, regional flu clinics, emergency shelters, at events such as Timberman Ironman, and in regional emergency planning. |

During the aftermath of the tornado of 2008, LR-CERT provided hours of volunteer time supporting the clean-up efforts of towns and utility workers.

Monthly meetings provide additional training and drills to enhance both personal and team emergency preparedness. Such trainings may include:

In December 2008, the LR CERT team was awarded the prestigious Spirit of New Hampshire award for their work helping Alton, Deerfield and other communities deal with the aftermath of the tornado that devasted so many towns. The team is joined by Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Executive Councilor Ray Burton. | |||||
