Animal Response Unit

Lakes Region Community Emergency Response Team (LR-CERT) is working with the New Hampshire Disaster Animal Response Team (NHDART) to develop an Animal Response Unit of LR-CERT. Once trained, members will be able to respond to animal emergencies locally, statewide and nationally. Goals of the Unit will be:

  • Organize temporary, emergency animal shelters
  • Provide emergency animal care
  • Evacuate animals from disaster sites

All members of the Animal Response Unit must complete the Lakes Region Cummunity Emergency Response Course and be a member of the Lakes Region Community Emergency Response Team. In addition the following training is required:

Level 1 Training (members who complete this training may respond to certain emergencies regionally and within the state):

  • Animal Sheltering
  • Animal First Aid
  • Small Animal Handling

Level 2 Training (members who complete this training may be called upon for more advanced emergencies regionally and within the state):

  • Large Animal First Aid
  • Large Animal Handling
  • Search and Rescue

Level 3 Training (members who complete this training may be called upon to respond to emergencies locally, state and nationwide, if they desire):

  • Animal and Human Rapid Water
  • Animal and Human Rope Incline
  • HSUS National Disaster Animal Response (NDART) Certification
  • Advanced Search and Rescue
  • Introduction to Hazardous Material
